Involved Parents Make Better Schools!  There are many ways to get involved at Westport Heights Elementary - find a way that fits with your skills and availability.  Complete this interest form to get more information about volunteer opportunities:  WHES Volunteer Interest Form 

 

Skills / Roles Needed:

Morning Valet
Help kids safely out of the cars in the dropoff lane between 7:40-8:15 - we will work with your availability
Book Fair
Sell books during the Parent-Teacher Conference weeks - many shifts available
Garden & Campus Beautification
Get your hands dirty in our garden, help with painting, planting, and cleaning projects
Event Planning
Help plan fundraising events, programs, and activities
Room Parent/Classroom Volunteer
Talk to your child's teacher to see if there are ways you can help out in the classroom
Technology
Help with our new robots or lead an Hour of Code session in the classroom
Yearbook
Organize photos, edit yearbook, and sell ads
Friday Sales
Sell snacks after school on Fridays 
Bilingual Homework Help
Get involved with after-school tutoring programs
General Tasks
Stop by the Parent Center to help with general tasks - stuffing folders, writing thank you notes, making copies, unpacking shipments, and general organizing.
College & Career Days
Share your college and career experiences in the classroom
Grant Writing
Research and write grant proposals to seek funding for our programs
Your Special Skill
Do you have a special skill or experience to share with WHES?  Reach out to let us know what you can do and we'll find a way to get you involved.

 

How to Become a Volunteer:

  • Email our Community Rep or fill out the Volunteer Interest Form to learn more about volunteer opportunities
  • Fill out this LAUSD volunteer application
  • Additional validations may be needed depending on the volunteer role:
    • You may need to pass a test to prove you don't have Tuberculosis.  Local urgent care facilities or your primary care physician can perform this test.
    • You may be asked to submit a fingerprint background check depending on the type of volunteer role

These additional checks are to ensure the health and safety of our children.

 

College Day & Career Day

We organize College Day and Career Day for our students to learn about college and career opportunities past elementary school and start envisioning future options.  Your academic and professional experiences are valuable to share.  Reach out to our Community Rep to learn more about how to share your experiences with our students.
